EVE Online is probably one of the most scam infested online games out there.
Except for maybe a few old school games like Linage and Ultima Online.
Therefor I have decided to make a list of scams to watch out for, that I will update regulary.
-= Contract Scams =-
1. The 0.0 impossible dock scam
This scam works by issuing a tempting reward along with a not so insane collateral.
The destination station is in a 0.0 system and has a very high docking fee, so when you get there it's impossible for you to dock unless you want to pay hundreds of millions of isk.
I fell for this scam myself, the collateral was 5 million isk which fortunatly isn't too bad, and the docking fee at the station was 250 million isk.
It's also very common that the box you deliver contains a unpacked shuttle which gives a cargo volume of 5000 m3 to make it look like a serious contract.
2. The 0.0 warp distruption field scam
This is a pretty simple scam, the flightpath from the gate to the station is blocked by a warp distruption field camped likely by the person assigning the contract.
If you are smart you can likely avoid it though by first warping in another direction and from there to the station.
Unfortunatly you can never know if you are also a subject to the 0.0 impossible dock scam.
3. The Navy Issue scam
Another simple scam involving auctions.
People put out auctions with a description like "Omen Navy Issue" or "Apocalypse Navy Issue" and so on.
But in fact the ship they are selling is just a standard version. This can easily be spotted, but can just as easily be missed if you're not paying attention.
So pay attention before buying something on the auction.
4. The missing digit scam
Sometimes people wants to sell insane amounts of something (like tritanium for example)
The description says maybe 100 000 000 tritanium, and they want 300 000 000 (300 mil) isk in return.
But when you look close at the actual item info there's only 10 000 000 (10 mil) tritanium offered, which leaves you to pay 10x the normal worth of tritanium.
And when it comes to these amounts that's a loss of 270 million isk. (A little less actually since the average sell price of tritanium is 4 isk at the moment, but you still lose over 200 million).
